8th Annual Delaware Young Playwrights Festival

The Delaware Theatre Company is proud to announce the award winners for the 2007 Delaware Young Playwrights Festival.  2007 marks the eighteenth anniversary of the Delaware Young Playwrights Festival and its reach continues to be impressive.  This year saw the submission of 550 plays from 725 playwrights.

To every student who turned in a first draft – Thank You!  You make DYPF what it is.  It takes courage to share your creative voice with the world and we would like to honor all of you, if even in a small way.  Therefore…

From those epic numbers of first draft submissions, the competition was narrowed down to eight middle school semi-finalists and six high school semi-finalists.  The Festival will culminate in mid-May with a full-blown celebration of Delaware student creativity, including student art work and student theatre critics.  Please join us for the 2007 DYPF presentations:

Middle School Readings – May 8, 2007 at 7:30pm
High School Performances – May 17* & 18, 2007 at 7:30pm

(May 17 will be the High School Gala Performance with awards ceremony and reception)

All Festival events are held at the Delaware Theatre Company.
Please call David Stradley at (302) 594-1104 x225 for more information about attending.

A Special Note To All Semi-Finalists

We would like to thank the authors of all fourteen plays who came in to interview.  As always, we wish we could present all of your plays.  Each play had something important to say and each playwright had a creative way of telling a story.  But ultimately, we have to choose three middle school plays and three high school plays.  Please know that all honorable mentions, semi-finalists, and finalists will be recognized at the DYPF performances in May.  We also hope that all of you will continue writing.  And finalists, get ready to work.  You will be contacted shortly to schedule your first meeting and begin the final leg of your playwriting journey.
