CONNECTIONS
Connections: A Community Conversation

DTC is proud to announce the third season of our series of audience enrichment events, Connections: A Community Conversation. Connections aims to “connect” DTC plays to a wide-reaching community and civic issues. These free forums seek to illuminate the plays in a way that makes them even more accessible to our audience and act as a launching pad to explore the broader arena of human nature and human affairs. In tone, they aim to be informal, free-flowing conversations between DTC’s audience and fascinating, knowledgeable presenters.

In its first two years, Connections has quickly become an vital part of DTC's core programming. Connections producer and Artistic Associate David Stradley says, "While it's important to DTC that you enjoy the shows while you're in theatre, it's even more important to us that you're able to take something with you that you can use out in the world."

Connections events are offered free to the public.

For the 2007-2008 season, Connections will be held in conjunction with The Piano Lesson.

Connections will be held between the matinee and evening performances on the second Saturday of the run. Start time is approximate. Connections will last for 90 minutes.

“PRESERVING DELAWARE'S AFRICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE"

Presented in support of The Piano Lesson by August Wilson

Sunday, April 20, 2008
Time: 5:15pm (Approx.)

The Piano Lesson examines the dilemma one African-American family faces in 1930s between preserving the family history of slavery and moving on to claim opportunities in the present. Exploring this issue from a Delaware perspective, faculty and graduates from Delaware State University’s African-American Heritage Preservation program will give a presentation on the efforts to preserve and document the history of African-Americans in Delaware. In a pursuit fraught with emotional and historical landmines, what gets preserved and what gets left behind? Speakers include Robin Krawitz , Flavia Rutkosky, and Dr. Bradley Skelcher. Special focus will be given to the issue of education-exploring the history of the schools of P.S. DuPont, Howard High School, and Delaware State University.

The Connections forum takes place at Delaware Theatre Company, 200 Water Street, Wilmington. Connections forums follow the matinee performance on the second Saturday of each play. This event is presented free of charge to the public.
